Do You Suffer from Techno-stress?

Maybe there is such a word or maybe not. I didn’t Google it and I didn’t invent it. It is just plain obvious.

I wrote a blog on Internet addiction awhile ago which had many comments and high engagement.
The thing is that unless you close your eyes once in awhile, sit silently and go within, you will suffer from Techno-stress, or any other stressors like overwhelm, a loss of identity once you’ve been fired or re-trenched, due to believing you ARE your job description or any other role you have.

If, on top of all that, you have a very strong identification with your “thinking mind” or “emotional life,” capped with a strong picture of who you want to become, the stress is multiplied. It’s a lot easier to accept who we are and watch all our weaknesses and eccentric ways with some friendliness and certainly not with any judgement or condemnation.

If you think that you are your mind and nothing more, (with a body attached to it), this may come as a shock to you. YOU ARE NOT. You are simply a watcher of these thoughts and feelings and actions, at best a silent watcher or witness of all that happens, without judgement, evaluation, or condemnation, relaxed, just like a mirror.

Unless we at least once in awhile, detach from all our activity, thoughts and feelings, we will suffer from techno-stress, identification with the mind, unnecessary anxiety, panic about the future, worry, and often a feeling of helplessness.

Some say that Depression is concerned with the past and Anxiety concerned with the future, but irrespective of whether these are accurate descriptions, the awareness at least that we worry about things far too much needs to be drilled into us for our own sanity. Just remember that when things get too much, you’re in the grip of the mind, emotions, or the accumulated residue which takes hold in the body.

Yes, there is a solution to the problem and many techniques and strategies to get there but the beginning is not to be identified with the mind and all the nonsense it produces. It’s called dis-identification.

And it’s the secret to living a balanced, less stressful, more creative lifestyle, and as little as possible allowing yourself to feel rushed or pressured by anything or anyone.
