Do you know that most leaders don’t take into account the fact that when companies encourage employees to do some exercise it is only for the health care aspect rather than to achieve peak performance.
The very same leaders ignore the fact that the way the staff exercises, will dictate to a large degree the productivity and overall satisfaction of them, the company and the whole culture of which they are a part.
Did you also know that there are certain days which are beneficial for certain activity? For example on Monday, it takes time to warm up mentally and is the best day for administrative jobs. The next 2 days are the days to focus on full and total engagement and to tackle the most problematic and challenging areas of the workplace.
Thursday was a day, some fellow called Moskowitz found, was a good day for meetings and Friday for brainstorming, relationship building and discussions. The key to getting better figures, it was discovered at Sony, was “not more hours but more vitality, focus, passion and positive emotion.” It was found that taking care of themselves was not just a luxury but a necessity. Now, this was a revelation and changed the way they worked. What will change the way you work?
At the base of many of these findings was the philosophy of “sprint and recover;” although not commonly accepted as a culture, sprint and recover was found to actually drive better performance, produce better results and one company even began to get more work done in a few hours than it did in long stretches before.
As a CEO, executive, operations manager or leader, you need to start the renewal process yourself, and then explain it to the staff or those close to you. You can’t preach what you do not practise and how often do we all forget that one simple truth?
At some stage you need to remind the staff of the relationship between great performance and renewal. Have a talk to your employees and ask what time frame and schedule they feel would work for them and produce the best results. Encourage some of the staff to do a workout somewhere at 12pm or during lunch time breaks.
Change your way of working, change the way you work and get better results; in fact, Re-work yourself first and then Re-work your work. Got it?
Cheers
