I don’t believe it is so significant what you do but rather that the choice of work was yours.
Some of us have chosen careers or work because of parents, social pressure, security or prestige. Now there is nothing essentially wrong with any of these influences unless you are strongly identified with the belief that without them you will not survive.
In our society we actually do learn by imitating others; that is all right when it comes to learning to walk but not when it comes to your life’s work. Of course this is easier said than done as we all have, for the most part, fallen prey to these influences at some point or another.
However, in the long run we are merely postponing what in reality we know we would like to be doing, given half a chance.
The idea prevalent these days is to have a happy, peaceful and successful life. However everyone wants such a life and few really attain it. To be ruthlessly honest with ourselves about what we want and do not want is the beginning of a life rich with significance and meaning.
Not only that, but also we will have the energy to take the necessary steps to reach that goal and the confidence to even enjoy some of the mistakes we will make along the way.
The more we get to know ourselves from the inside the more likely it is that we will find our passion and the choice of work can then be actually quite significant. However before that special significance the work you are doing should not be condemned but enjoyed as part of your learning curve.
Once you have understood the message from your present employment, it will be possible to move forward and only then.
Unless we have learned the lesson from the circumstances in which we find ourselves, it is often difficult to move on and achieve our potential.
Cheers
