There are two very different styles of people in business although many assorted combinations. One can be called the racehorse type and the other could be known as the turtle type. If the racehorse type is not allowed to go fast, to go into things with speed, there will be stress; s/ he has to be given his pace. So for this type it is wise to forget about relaxation and things like that; they are not for him or her. That is for turtles; relaxation is natural for them.
So the test is to determine what type you are, whether that of the racehorse or the turtle. If you are a warrior type, whether you are a female or a male, then accept your nature. You are a racehorse, a fighter, a warrior; you have to be that way, now go into it whole-heartedly. Fight with the market, compete in the market, do all that you really want to do. Don’t be afraid of the consequences, accept the stress.
Once you accept the stress it will disappear. And not only that, you will feel very happy because you have started using it; it is a kind of energy.
Don’t listen to people, who say to relax; they are well intentioned but unaware of how stress is different for each type. The racehorse type will come to relaxation after she/he has earned it, not before.
So, understand your type and once you understand your type, there is no problem; and then one can follow a clean-cut line. Stress is going to be your way of life if you are a racehorse type and a more relaxed style will be your way if you are the turtle type. There is no contradiction, only a matter of understanding types.
There are of course many more personalities at play in the workforce than just these two, however this simple insight will be very helpful to diffuse a lot of misunderstanding around stress and how we all try to cope with this complex issue.
